Six Malaysian government ministries over eleven years: Housing and Local Government, the National Institute of Accountancy, Finance, Human Resources, National Defence, and Investment Trade and Industry. Each role more senior than the last. Each one adding a layer of understanding about how policy actually works — not in theory, but in the ministries and committees where decisions are made and their consequences absorbed.

The global advisory years — taking the knowledge into the world
Strategic national advisor to the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, the Indian Ocean Rim Association, and Bursa Malaysia simultaneously. Doctoral research producing the first ASEAN academic study on AI-augmented leadership. Three books published. 100+ international keynotes delivered across five continents. The policy intelligence of the government years translated into advisory intelligence for the private sector and multilateral institutions.

The founder years — building institutions around the knowledge
Mahat Advisory founded to deliver principal-level leadership advisory to ASEAN's Bridge Generation at a quality level the SHREK firms do not build for this market. The Centered Edge launched to surface the conversations that boardrooms will not. Three non-profits active — Fur Kids Farm, Malaysia Mind Foundation, MY Human Inc — because the institutions that matter most are the ones nobody else is building.
Ts. Dr. Manju Appathurai is a licensed psychologist, dual PhD holder, and the founder of Mahat Advisory — a leadership advisory firm serving ASEAN's most complex organizational challenges at principal level. She is also the host of The Centered Edge, a leadership podcast producing the authentic conversations that senior executives need and rarely get to have.
Her advisory mandate history spans the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, the Indian Ocean Rim Association, MITI Malaysia, Bursa Malaysia, and — most recently — the Dutch Coalition for Defence and Security Malaysia. Before her private sector and multilateral advisory career, she served in six Malaysian government ministries over eleven years, developing the first AI-era Defence Industry Revitalization Plan, leading the Treasury Transformation Program at the Ministry of Finance, and driving TVET workforce strategy at the Ministry of Human Resources.
She holds a PhD in Crisis Economy (Manipal GlobalNxt, 2023), a Masters in Psychology Counselling (OUM, 2023), and is the author of what is believed to be the first doctoral study in ASEAN on how agentic AI changes the cognitive and emotional demands on human leaders. She is a Licensed Psychology Counsellor (Board of Counsellors Malaysia), a Licensed Technologist (Malaysia Board of Technologists), and a certified executive coach under HRD Corp Malaysia.
Her three published books — The Happy Life Blueprint (2020), ASEAN Unbound (2022), and The Identity Collapse (2025) — form a trilogy that traces her thinking from individual psychological performance to regional strategic intelligence to leadership identity under pressure. She is a strategic publications contributor to the Dutch Business Council Malaysia, with papers circulated across ASEAN and European business networks. She is a regular keynote speaker at international conferences across AI leadership, ASEAN geopolitics, leadership psychology, and ESG strategy — with 100+ keynotes delivered across five continents.
Outside her professional work, she founded Fur Kids Farm in 2014 — Malaysia's first self-sustaining animal rescue model — and established the Malaysia Mind Foundation in 2023 to drive corporate mental health leadership across Southeast Asia. Under MY Human Inc, she launched "Women 4.0: Stand Tall," a leadership development program for women in partnership with UN Women.
